| We are staffed entirely with volunteer doctors, dentists, nurses, dental assistants, nutritionists,
chaplains, social workers, receptionists, translators, and prayer and hospitality persons.
We opened our door for the treatment of medical patients in October of 2007, and have since logged thousands of patient visits.
The original vision for the medical clinic was shared by many, including Fr. Tom Connery of St. Peter's Catholic Church, a
Baptist Pastor and his wife (they are both nurses), a nurse practitioner, and others. Fr. Tom offered a building owned by the
parish as the clinic building.
The dental clinic was founded in 2009 upon recognition of the dental health needs of the uninsured of West Volusia County.
Herminia D. Rodriguez, DMD PA, donated her dental equipment, including three operatories. Good Samaritan volunteers leased and
refreshed the property at 1245 South Volusia Avenue in Orange City by painting and cleaning. The dental clinic began treating
patients September 14, 2009.
The volunteer health providers of both the medical and dental clinics work under a State Health Department granted status of
"sovereign immunity" to protect them from lawsuit. The clinics have 501(c)(3) status, granting exemption from federal income tax.
Under IRC Section 170, individuals donating to 501(c)(3) organizations that are either public charities, private operating
foundations, or certain private foundations may deduct contributions representing up to 50% of the donor's adjusted gross income
if the individual itemizes on his tax returns. Both the medical and dental clinics are able to function solely through the
generosity of those more fortunate residents of Volusia County. We accept donations of money and equipment from private
individuals and organizations. Because we are faith-based, we accept grants only from non-governmental organizations. |
